Joe Honer has fished many tournaments over the years. With wins and many top five finishes in the RCL walleye circuit, Muskie's Inc
International and Northen's Inc. He also finished 1st, 3rd and 4th in the North American Ice fishing Championship. Joe began guiding over 20
years ago. He spent many a day guiding the leach lake area and for the past nine years has been guiding in the Northeast South Dakota Glacial Lakes area as well as the Missouri river around Mobridge.
Joe views guiding as an every day learning experience and shares his wealth of knowledge with those who love to learn. He has been blessed with the opportunity of sharing and
learning by his appearances on
Midwest outdoors, fishing the Midwest with Bob Jenson, involvement with creating videos for Ice Team as well as fishing seminars. Joe is on pro
staff for
Ranger boats, Pure fishing, Clam fish houses, Strikemaster
augers and Vexlar depth finders.
I have been fishing all my life and have my favorite honey holes. I had thoughts in my head of exactly how it laid out down there. Then I bought the chip from Lakemaster and I can still
remember how surprised I
was to see how it actually did lay out and why some of the way points I had there were so important. Being able to see the lay out also allows
me to control my boat
and be as precise as I need to be even in high winds. The Lakemaster chips have allowed me to become much more competent as a guide and fisherman. Which in turn, enables me to use
the time
I have available to do more catching the fish rather than roaming around to find them.
The chip also plays a key roll in my ability to offer safe trips to my customers. I can't afford to be broken down with damaged props or a lower unit. If you have ever fished in the Glacial
Lakes region of South Dakota you know how easy that is to do. As valuable as time is and the expenses involved in repairs, there is no doubt that money spent on a Lakemaster chip is pennies
compared to the alternative.
We also guide ice fishing here in South Dakota where on the average
day we can auger a hundred holes or more to keep our customers on
fish. I can't tell you the time and energy we save having a
Lakemaster chip to tell us what is under us and not having to drill holes through three feet of ice to find out. It is literally a life saver some days.
Joe guides year round in the Glacial Lakes area of NE SD. Ice fishing,
open water, pheasant and waterfowl.
